What vegetarians can eat to stay lean?

Hey Mate, I’m back with another topic.

I’m a vegetarian since my childhood and I’ve been always told that I cannot be lean without having eggs and chicken. I actually thought of turning into a non vegetarian, but glad I didn’t because it is very difficult for me to eat an animal which is cut alive in front of me. So, glad this fear made me stuck there. (Some fears are good)

And I didn’t let my dedication get disturbed by the outside noise and continued. My passion was so strong that I didn’t let any views affect me.

The only difference in eating vegetarian food and a meat is that a few amount of meat will give you a lot amount of nutrients than the whole food. (Protein and Carbohydrates are the one which mostly varies)

Here are few of my favourite vegetarian food which you can eat and it does not even cost you too much.

Number 1.

Soy Milk

The best food to keep you active and healthy for a longer period of time. This milk has less amount of fat than the normal one we drink (i.e.cow milk)

One whole glass of this will give you around 3.5 grams of healthy carbohydrates and 6.2 grams of protein and 2.2 grams of fibre. Opt for an unflavored one because the flavoured one contains sugar.

If you are a woman then please do not opt for this milk because this milk contains isoflavones which is a plant estrogen and due to the high amount of isoflavones in soy makes it unhealthy for a woman to drink. It may lead to breast cancer. Almond milk is a better option.

If anybody running short in budget then the soy milk is a good option because it is cheaper than the almond milk.

Number 2.

Lotus seeds

These are the most amazing snack which you can have without getting tired. These are easily available in the market in the form puffed seeds. They act like an alternative to popcorn but a better version for your health.

A small bowl of these puffed seeds will give you around 4 grams of protein and around 25 grams of carbohydrates and barely 0.01 grams of fat (how amazing right?) This seeds also gives you multiple health benefits like controlling your diabetes, helps in digestion,helps in good sleep and a lot more.

I call this as my travel food.

Number 3.

Banana

No matter how much you hate them, you’ll need them for your pre workout, they have high amount of carbohydrates which makes them power food for your workout.

1 medium banana will give you around 20 grams of carbohydrates and 1 gram of protein. Due to the high carbohydrate content having it during the day time or before 6 in the evening is more Prefreble.

Secret tip.

If you are on a beach and want to flaunt your body have few bananas before you step on the beach it automatically shapes your body and makes it look more in shape. (Approx 3)

Number 4.

Cottage cheese

Fact: Do you know? That when you are sleeping your body’s still working it is just your mind which is sleeping. So, that working body needs a food and as you are asleep you cannot eat.

Cottage cheese is something you can eat before you go to sleep. Because of its slow digestion quality it helps your body give a good amount of protein which it needs when you are in your dreams.

Around 100 grams of cottage cheese gives you 7 grams of protein. Amazing! Isn’t it?

Number 5.

Nuts

Including them in your diet will give you a good amount of health benefits. Handful amount of walnuts and almonds will give you 4.3 grams of protein, 4 grams of carbohydrates, 2 grams of fibre, 18 grams of healthy fats .

They have multiple health benefits like controlling blood pressure, benefiting heart and brain and effective for weight loss.

Number 6.

Broccoli

Just like mango being the king of the fruit, For me, Broccoli is the king of all vegetables. Not only it’s different structure but it’s nutrient quality makes it the king.

The only vegetable which has a good amount of protein. 100 grams of steamed broccoli will give you around 3.5 grams of carbohydrates, 3 grams of protein and 2.5 grams of fibre.

Not only this but it will also help you glow your skin.

Add black salt or few drops of lemon for taste.

Tip:

1. Avoid having broccoli boiled instead have it steamed because when you boil a broccoli it losses lot of nutrients.

2. Avoid having it for the dinner because it leads to gas in the body. Best time is to have it during lunch or breakfast.

Number 7.

Sprouts

Another power food, most people don’t like to eat them because of the taste but trust me this the powerhouse of protein after milk.

Have it on anytime of the day. This is my another travel companion.

If you don’t like the taste add few drops of lemon to it. You’ll definitely love it.

Number 8.

Sweet Potato

Well, I call sweet potato powerhouse of carbohydrates because the carbohydrates content in sweet potato is in abundance just like boiled lentils.

Adding this to your diet will definitely boost your mind and body.

A medium size of boiled sweet potato will give you around 20 to 25 grams of carbohydrates. Quite enough for your pre workout.

Number 9.

Water

I know it is quite funny that I have added water to this list. I’ve added water to this list for a reason.

Everybody knows the benefits of water like glowing skin and all, but do you know water helps you in increasing your metabolism? It plays a good part in keeping you in shape too.

Number 10.

Quinoa

Quinoa is a seed which once boiled looks like a rice. But it ain’t like a white rice because it has more amount of carbohydrates, And it barely have any fat content.

Around 60 grams of cooked quinoa will give you 15 grams of carbohydrates and 1.5 grams of proteins and fats respectively.

You can have Quinoa any how you like. Add spices to it if you love spicy.

Make it in Mexican style, Italian whatever suits you. Everything’s okay until it is edible. (Hahha)

There are a tonnes of food you can eat list goes on and on and it does not stop just like this Coronavirus.

Here are a list of few more foods you can add to your list.

* Greek yogurt

* Boiled Lentils

* Brown Rice

* Any Fruit, etc

All this information which is given are by experience and not just picked from google and pasted.

I’ve tried my best to not miss on any important food. All these food can be eaten by anybody who wants a lean body except for somebody who is looking for a zero figure.

Try eating carbohydrates before 6pm in the evening because we aren’t that active in the evening. Carbohydrates are for energy we need for work and workout both. Just make sure you get it from a proper source.

If you feel like eating something sweet and don’t want to break your flow. Don’t wait till the cheat day instead get a substitute for it. You’ll get habituated to it.

I usually make my brownies which are healthy and does not even make me regret. And can have it without gaining much weight. (If you want the recipe let me know in the comment section below.)

This is my second blog. If you are new here then please read my first blog which is about “How to start with fitness”. And let me know in the comment section below what changes would you like to see in my upcoming blogs.
